On Saturday the 13th of August the club’s senior athletes visited Thurrock for round 4 of the Southern athletics league. Despite battling against a temperature in the mid-30s, a less than favourable wind and traffic chaos, there were some strong results and a number of wins for Bedford athletes:
Congratulations to Lyla Danobrega, who set a new club Under 17 and Senior Women's record of 5:22.8 for the 1500m Steeplechase in the Southern Athletics League match at Thurrock on Saturday.

The club is currently short of officials, who are vital for our league matches, including the YDL and EYAL. If you are a parent, or a grandparent, and you are taking your child to a match anyway, please consider officiating. There are spaces in online courses available during August. There were some excellent results at the Doug Anderson 5k in Bedford Park on Wednesday 20th July, which also incorporated the Bedfordshire 5k Championship.
Craig Emmerson won the race with a new PB of 15:39, Alan Turnbull was the first M55 home in a speedy 17:07, and we also won the Men's team competition with Craig, Alan and Henry Bambrick (17:08) as the scorers.
Ellie Harper won the junior female race in 21:27 and title and Simon Harper was 2nd M45 in 19:28.
Alan's 17:07 is also a new M55 club road best for 5k - congratulations Alan!

Bedford and County AC are seeking a second welfare office to work with our current welfare officer, Tina Blackwell. England Athletics recommends that athletics clubs have at least 2 welfare officers, one male and one female.
What does the welfare officer do? Generally club welfare officers are there to ensure that the club fulfils its safeguarding duties to children and adults.
