It was a busy day at the EMAC Indoor Champs on Sunday 9th February. 3 club records were broken.

Glen Kerr broke the M50 Indoor shotput record with 10.84m, to win the bronze medal.

Darren Kerr equalled the M55 Indoor shotput record with 11.15m to win the gold medal.

Graeme Packman broke the M70 Indoor and Overall shotput record with 9.51m, this is the first club record Graeme has broken in 45 years competing for the club.

Congratulations to all 3 athletes!

Yesterday, the final Chiltern League cross country of the season took place at Oxford. Bedford and County finished the season off in style on a very muddy course to win the overall competition, taking home the title for the first time in 7 years.

We also won the team title for Senior Women and U17 Men, a title Bedford and County's Senior Women haven't won for 11 years.

The British Masters Indoor Pentathlon Championships was held last Sunday at the EIS in Sheffield.

Bedford & County athlete Leanne Buxton competed in the W45 category and won the National Title.

She achieved three W45 club records (60 Hurdles 9.51 sec; High jump 1.39m; and Long jump 5.00m) in setting a club W45 pentathlon record of 3868 points.

Congratulations Leanne, what an amazing start to her 2025 competitive season.

We have now completed our affiliations to Track and Field leagues for 2025 and the fixture list is taking shape.

Seniors

The focus for the club this season for senior athletes will be the Southern Athletics League (SAL). This means that we get a home fixture, plus a further local match at Sandy, with the other two fixtures being at Colchester. This league also gives an opportunity to our U17 athletes, as the minimum age for this league is 15 as of 31/8/25. It has also historically proven to provide good competition for our masters athletes.

We have not affiliated to the National Athletics League this year, as in recent years we have found that the travel distances involved have meant that we have struggled to get teams out. We will, though, obviously support any of our senior athletes who wish to compete for NAL clubs as Higher Claim Athletes.

After returning from a tough warm weather training session in Tenerife, Jasmine Wilkins flew to Dublin for an indoor meet at Abbotstown, running in the 60m and 200m.

Although very tired from Tenerife Jasmine still managed a new club record in the 200m, 24.33 secs.

Not one to rest for long, Jasmine has been selected to represent England in Iceland  at the Reykjavik International Games on 27th Jan.

Entry for the Eastern Indoor Track & Field Championships is now open!

The championships is on the 1st & 2nd March 2025 and is combined with the Essex Indoor Championships.
