Congratulations to Alex Alston and Etienne Maughan, who both broke club records this weekend. Alex also finished first in the 3000m Steeplechase at the England Athletics Under 20 Championships.
England Athletics Under 20 / Under 23 Championships, Bedford, 19th / 20th June
Alex Alston, 1st place in the Under 20 3000m Steeplechase, 9:16.72. This is a club under 20 record, supplanting Simon Goodwin's longstanding mark of 9:22.3 that was set in 1981. Congratulations to Alex on both a hard-earned win and on breaking the record.
Stephen Simmons: 6th place in the Under 20 110m Hurdles, 14.67 (Stephen also ran 14.54 to come third in his heat).
Jamie Webster, 5th place in his Under 20 800m heat, 1:55.50.
Southern Athletics League, Sandy, 20th June
The club finished 3rd, and Bedford athletes were both man of the match (Richard Martin) and Woman of the Match (Etienne Maughan). Richard won the men's Hammer competition with a throw of 57.90, which moves him up to top of the UK M35 rankings. Etienne broke the overall club Women’s record of 11.9 sec set by Elaine Viney in 1990 by clocking 11.8 seconds in the SAL. Congratulations to Etienne on her second club record of the season.
There were also a number of other PBs and good performances.
