Thaila-Jade Mason excelled at the Eastern Region Schools Heptathlon held at a a hot and humid Boston last weekend, finishing 4th in a good class field. An excellent score of 4,305 points, which included 4 personal bests, qualified her for the English Schools Combined Events Finals to be held at Bedford on the third weekend of September.

Her personal bests came in 80m Hurdles 12.1 sec.; Shot 9.23m; 200m 25.6 sec and Javelin 24.10m, whilst her high jump of 1.57m, achieved during a 90 minute competition in the heat of Saturday, was only a centimetre short of her lifetime best. The long jump was disappointing (5.09m). Thaila completed her seven events by clocking 2min 41.4seconds in the 800m run in a strong wind and a temperature of 32 degrees.
