The second match of the 2023 EMAC Season took place on a sunny but surprising cool evening at Cambridge University Track on Wednesday 7 June. Bedford & County started the evening with two wins in the 1.5K walk with Adam Hills and John Borgas continuing their with their successes from last year. Following a couple of late withdrawals due to work at home commitments, (someone managed to ram their boat into Steve Bass’s floating home pontoon!!), the team managed to cover non-technical events.
Simon Coombes managed to get his legs going for a 29.7s PB in the 200m. Tenny James cut short his planned holiday in Portugal to compete winning M60 200m, and coming 2nd in the 100m hurdles, the team was unable to cover the younger age hurdles so lost points to Milton Keynes. On the track Simon Coombes won the M50 800m, and was ably supported by Charlie Palmer (M40) 4th, and Dave Frampton (M60) 2nd in their respect races.
In the field events were most successful with Roy Chambers (M35) taking 1st place in javelin, Discus, Long Jump and 2nd in the High Jump, then he rounded of the evening with a superb 400m which enabled the single mixed age team to achieve 2nd place in the M35 4 x 400m relay.
Phil Bowers was 1st in the M50 Long Jump and 2nd in the High Jump, Richard Phelan (M60) 2nd in the High Jump 3rd in the Javelin. Darren Kerr continues his return with 2nd places in the M50 discus and Javelin, and Graeme Packmen was 3rd in the M60 discus continuing his recent run of good form.

Well done ladies.
Bedford & County AC (306 points) still holds a marginal lead over Marshall Milton Keynes (297 points) of 9 points in the League after 2 Matches and with the next match at Bedford in July where they will the opportunity to strengthen this position, and hopefully the club may be able to tempt a few more ladies to compete.
Many thanks to all athletes who competed at Cambridge on Wednesday in cool, but sunny, and sometimes difficult blustery conditions.
Full and ratified results still to be published.
