Report by Jim Keech, Men's Masters Team Manager.
Due to facility non-availability at Sandy the first fixture on 4th May was moved to Milton Keynes at very short notice and all teams were pleased, and a big thank you to all involved in ensuring the event was successful. It was great to see many friendly faces again, I won’t say old as the rules of the league insist on this as a condition of entry !! We had some new faces doing track for the first time: Charlie Palmer and Steve Horton both finished with smiles and promises of doing it again. Sadly we were hit by some late withdrawals. but with some sterling performances across the evening the team managed to finish in second place only 13 points behind Milton Keynes.
Match 2 on 1st June saw us back at Milton Keynes, and on a perfect night we again managed to finish the night in second place, but this time 25 points behind Milton Keynes. Due to availability we were unable to cover all events, but again people stepping up did a great job. There were another couple of first-timers on show during the evening: Steve Harper in the 800m, and Roy Chambers a real newbie at 36 showing his multi-event skills in the field and in the relay. Peter Webster, Richard Phelan and Dave Folgate and covered events with a smile and again promised to return.
The next match is at Cambridge on Wednesday 22 June, at 7.00pm, so if there are any other over 35s who would like to have a go at any of the track and field events just let me know and I’ll talk you through the procedures etc.
