Three of Bedford Wheelchair Racing athletes competing in the London Marathon mini marathon performed incredibly well. All were in the Under 17 race with Varun Bandi from Flitwick finishing a very credible third in the boys' race, repeating his third place of two years ago.
Jade Olulode, from Marston Moretaine, on her debut in the race was pipped at the finish eventually finishing 4th, just seven seconds behind the runner-up and one second behind the third place finisher.
In the same race, Katie Connolly, from Luton, a relative newcomer to the sport finished in 6th place, her only previous race a 100m just a fortnight previously.
The Wheelchair racing section was only established just four years ago and the progress made by the athletes and their coaches, Zoe Luscombe and Michael Blunt, is quite amazing. Varun was also interviewed by the BBC on the embankment in London.
