Despite fielding a team weakened by injuries and the holiday season, there were some fine individual performances, and we finished second in the National Athletics League Match at Bedford on Saturday 28th August.
Highlights included Under 17 Gracie Wall's win in the High Jump (1.68 metres), Belinda Sergent's win in the Triple Jump (11.87), and second place in the Long Jump (5.29), Roy Chambers (M35) who won the Javelin with a throw of 47.20, and Stephen Simmons (U20), who won the B Javelin in a PB of 44.46 metres, and who also came third in the 400m (53.25). There were also PBs for William Biziki (U20), who came second in the 200m in 23.03, and Riley Woodley (U20) who won the 200m B race in 23.17, and Leonie Brunning (U20), who came first in the B Long Jump with a jump of 5.14 metres. Etienne Maughan (U17) continued her strong season with second places in both the 100m (12.22) and the 200m (24.87). After a break of some time from league competition, James Danobrega's (M45) throw of 29.44 was close to his PB in the hammer.
Well done to all the athletes involved. Credit also to the Bedford voluteers, including officials and organizers, who got the show on the road despite many absences due to the bank holiday weekend.
