Congratulations to Raph Boujou and Thaila-Jade Mason, who have both broken club records recently.  Raph improved his own Senior Men's 100m record to 10.01 seconds at the European Under 23 Championships in Finland on 13th July, whilst Thaila-Jade improved the Under 17 Women's Long Jump record to 6.00 metres at the Schools International in Grangemouth on 15th July.

Congratulations to John Eves, who has broken two M40 club records recently.  John's new marks are 8:43.61 for the 3000m, set at Watford on 28th June, and 15:07.21 for the 5000m, set at Finsbury Park on 21st July.

Congratulations to two athletes who have recently broken club records:

  • Etienne Maughan broke her own Senior Women's and Under 20 Women's 100m hurdles record with a time of 13.78 seconds at the British Championships last weekend.
  • Tennyson James broke the club's M65 100m record with a time of 13.5 seconds in the EMAC league match on 10th May.

Both athletes have now broken club records five times this year.

Congratulations to Etienne Maughan and Lyla Danobrega, who both set new club records at the English Schools Championships at the weekend.  Etienne's 13.98 seconds is a new club Senior Women's and Under 20 Women's record for 100m Hurdles.  Lyla's 5:06.16 is a new club Senior Women's and Under 20 Women's record for 1500m Steeplechase.  

The funeral of Jenny O’Shea will take place at Bedford Chapel, Norse Road on Thursday 13th July at 13.45, followed by a wake at the Knife and Cleaver, Houghton Conquest. Congratulations to Bob Kingman and to Lois Fordham who have both broken club records recently.  At the recent NAL match, Bob Kingman improved his own Pole Vault record to 3.80m; whilst Lois Fordham set new figures for the U13 Pole Vault by clearing 2.12m at the Biggleswade Jumps Fest on 21st June. The previous holder was Gracie Wall who did 2.01m in 2018.

Jenny O’Shea, who has passed away after a long illness, will have been known by many members of Bedford and County AC. She was an outstanding sprints coach, a regular timekeeper at many of our meetings and was for many years Championships Secretary and organiser of the Bedfordshire AAA Championships. High Jump Gold Chelmsford 2023

Congratulations to Gracie Wall, who won the Women's Under 20 High Jump gold medal at the England Athletics Championships in Chelmsford on Sunday.  Gracie's winning jump of 1.78 metres is a personal best, and puts her into third place in this year's UK Under 20 rankings.  As a result Gracie has achieved the qualification standard for the British Championships and will receive an automatic invite to compete on the 9th July in Manchester.

Our fellow athlete Graham Ayre has recently passed away. His funeral is at Bedford Crematorium on Friday 23rd June at 12.15.

He is remembered by Howard Darbon.

Congratulations to Etienne Maughan who broke the club's Under 20 Women's 100m Hurdles record in the NAL match at the weekend.  Etienne's new record is 14.25 seconds.  Congratulations also to Glen Kerr, who broke his own M45 Hammer club record with a throw of 52.22 metres at the SEAA Championships on 4th June.

Watford Open

Ben Davies produced a 3:44.22 1500m personal best in the BMC Gold Standard race at Watford last night, finishing second to Olympian, Elliot Giles.  Congratulations to Ben on a fantastic performance, which may have been the second fastest 1500m ever by a Bedford and County member.
