Howard Darbon provides an update about the club's growing Wheelchair Racing Section:
It has been difficult for members of the Wheelchair Racing section to train in recent weeks because of the cold weather and the absence of proper training rollers. However, all that has changed recently with the good news that we have qualified to receive over £2500 from a Sport England grant which will enable us to purchase 3 sets of purpose built training rollers which will enable all members to train at home.
Without this financial support it would be extremely difficult for the section to function and so I would like to thank the following on behalf of our members for their generous support:
Harpur Trust: Funding for a wooden cabin to provide storage and an indoor training area.
Transition Cycles, Bedford: Any repairs to wheels and tyres will be carried out free of charge up to an agreed limit.
Sport England: Funding for 3 sets of training rollers which can also be used for warming up at athletic meetings
The Eileen Alexander Legacy Fund: Funding for the purchase of racing wheelchairs
England Athletics: Funding to support the satellite club activity - equipment, coach development etc.
Dunster House: Contribution towards the purchase of the wooden cabin.
Local Rotary Clubs: Donations for a range of support equipment and coach education etc.
