Aspiring club members in schools years 5 to 7

We have options for this age range as they will not always know what event to try and they often have limited athletic experience. There is evidence that youngsters should follow a multi-disciplinary approach as this is more likely to produce a better all round athlete in the longer term. We therefore encourage young athletes to join our Beagles Plus group at 5.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday. However, we do recognise that some young athletes want to focus on a particular event and that early specialisation can result in faster short term progress, and these are covered by the specialist groups listed below.

Aspiring new members in school year 8 and above, and adults

Typically have some athletic experience and a clear desire to pursue a preferred event. The wishes of the athlete will always be respected and this normally makes a choice of training group straightforward. We also offer a multi-event group option if this is preferred.

Most groups train on Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30pm, although some will train at other times and coaches will discuss this with you. Due to limits on numbers there may be waiting lists for particular groups.

The options are

Specialist Groups

  • Sprint-based groups.
  • Endurance/ Middle Distance groups.
  • Technical groups
    • Throws (Discus, Hammer, Javelin, Shot)
    • High Jump
    • Long/Triple Jump
    • Pole Vault
    • Hurdles
  • Multi-event group, giving a range of run, jump & throws training. This may lead to pursuit of combined events or a later specialisation in any one event.
