The Men’s Masters Team narrowly failed to regain the Eastern Masters Athletics Club League Trophy at Milton Keynes on Sunday 22 September.
The overall result was still in doubt up to the last event, the medley relay, and with Marshall Milton Keynes just about hanging on to win that event it meant that they took the trophy by half a point. The winning margin was only 1.8 seconds.
All team members battled admirably through torrential rain, everyone competing in at least two events, and some considerably more, with special mention to Gavin Fordham (M40) and Simon Eastwood (M50) who between them covered 14 of the 42 events on the day.
The athletics was of the high quality expected in the final and Peter Benedickter was one of many athletes to set new EMAC records, with 61.45 sec. in the 400M hurdles.
Simon Coombes was undefeated over 800m, 1500m and 3000m, and there were good performances from our returning European Masters Gold Medallists - Tennyson James (M60) in the sprints, Andrew Leach (M55) and Alek Swiecicki (M70) in the 3000m.
Special mentions go to Peter Webster and Dave Frampton, who competed out of age group with success, and to Adam Hills who not only spent a good deal of the day officiating, but also found the energy to do the 2K walk.
The full results will be available on Power of Ten in the near future.
