Paula Radcliffe was the surprise guest at the club’s winter awards evening on 17 April 2013. During an interview Paula said how much she enjoyed being a member of the club, the fun she had training at the track with the girls and how much she owed her coaches, Alex and Rosemary Stanton. She revealed the meticulous planning which Alex had put into her training schedules and her race plans. Over thirty awards were presented, ranging from 365 Awards, though Winter Endeavour Awards, to Club Champions for each age group and Team Managers Awards.  A great moment came when Paula presented a trophy to her old training partner, Liz Yelling, with whom she had run thousands of miles and shares many experiences.

The award for Best Performance by an U17 went to Freddie Ayre for his 2nd place in the U13 National Championships, whilst the Senior Award went to Neilson Hall for 3rd place in the National. Neilson was also presented with a silver salver to mark his first Great Britain Senior International.

The night was a fairytale come true for Rebecca Murray. After winning the English Schools Cross Country Championships in March, AW quoted Rebecca as saying that her hero was Paula Radcliffe, but that she had never met her. Well she has now, twenty one years after Paula won the English Schools title, she presented Rebecca with a signed certificate and a signed copy of her autobiography.
